RESEARCH WITH VISUAL NARRATIVE: A REPORT OF EXPERIENCE IN SECONDARY STUDENT OCCUPATIONS

Abstract

This article presents the report of a doctoral research that uses the visual narrative as a methodological approach. The study completed in 2020 points out the act of narrating through visualities based on the concept of Visual Culture (MIRZOEFF, 1998, 2015; CAMPOS, 2012, 2013; MITCHEL, 1987; AGUIERRE, 2013). Linking the image to the entire contextual construct to which it relates, we sought to understand the fabric narrated by young people in high school student occupations. The images produced and shared by students through mobile devices connected in a network (CASTELLS, 2013) promoted activist actions through the media (GOMES, 2016; SODRÉ, 2018; PERUZZO, 2018). Observation of the visualities published on Facebook pages and listening at open occupation events allowed the understanding of the main themes brought up and debated in the context of the movement. The text points out the itinerancy of the research and the possibilities found in the course of the research when thinking about the narratives with / through visualities. A snapshot of the visualities perceived in the larger research is brought in the text as a way of dialoguing with the dynamics thought along the way.
