MENTAL HEALTH AND EDUCATION: AN EXPERIENCE IN HEALTH PROMOTION IN THE EDUCATIONAL NETWORK OF VITÓRIA DA CONQUISTA-BA

Reflecting on attention to health promotion, especially in the school/educational environment, encompasses discussing strategies that enhance the quality of life of individuals and the social collective, allowing for the active participation of these actors in this construction. Thus, this work seeks to portray the experience of a process of planning, collective organization, intervention and constitution of material in the format of an informative-explanatory booklet, designed for Education professionals who make up the public primary education network in the city of Vitória of Conquest – BA. Its objective was to provoke reflections and effective contributions about the promotion of mental health of professionals working in the educational context of the city, weaving discussions about the breadth of the concept of health, as well as about health promotion in the school environment. The bibliographical research on the topics covered was used as methodological procedures, in order to support the construction of the material. During our literature review, the Psychology, Health and School Environment curriculum component of the Psychology course at the State University of Southwest Bahia (UESB) was used as a space for interactions and debates. Therefore, this product was configured as a potential element of intervention and tension against the reductionist and hygienist concepts of health, in order to equip public education professionals about the principles of the Health Promoting School, in the development of promotion and prevention strategies of mental health in the school environment.
