TRENDS OF MARVELOUS REAL IN WALIMAI BY ISABEL ALLENDE

Abstract

The marvelous realism, as it does not present a disjunction between the natural and the supernatural, becomes a space for convergence and debate of the facts that are known about Latin America, giving rise to the transgression of the real, without rupture. From this finding, we sought as a theoretical framework the postulates of Irlemar Chiampi (2015), Alejo Carpentier (2009) among others, applied in the narrative structure of the short story “Walimai”, first published in 1989, in the book The Stories of Eva Luna by Isabel Allende. For this article, we sought to understand the construction of marvelous realism, through the eyes of a woman writer, for Latin American indigenous culture, by means of textual mechanisms that are articulated in a second moment, with concepts such as history and ideology. To do this, emphasis will be placed on characteristics of marvelous realism, such as the enchantment in the narrative (Chiampi, 2015), the absence of hesitation in the narrator and space.
