An Adidactic Situation for the Development of Probabilistic Reasoning and Thinking in a Teacher Education Course

Abstract

The objective of this work is to discuss the development of an adidactic situation as a didactic tool for approaching the concept of probability through the confrontation between its classic and frequentist approaches in a continuing education course for mathematics teachers who work in basic education. Research in the teaching-learning area of ​​probability has highlighted the need for teachers to be better prepared for classroom work with activities that can promote the development of probabilistic thinking, reasoning, and literacy. We will only discuss aspects of probabilistic reasoning in this text. In this study, the applied research methodology is the qualitative approach. Among the conclusions, we found that the adidactic situations built allowed those teachers to work on their knowledge, enabling the recognition of important elements for the development of probabilistic thinking, reasoning, and literacy, from which we can also infer an improvement in the didactic work for the development of these three pillars also with students.
