State of the art: a methodological resource for research in memory and education – a case study

Abstract

This paper presents a segment of the research conducted during the Master's program in Education at the State University of Southwest Bahia - UESB (2021-2022), focusing on constructing a state of the art on the dissertation's theme. The objective was to identify studies in major Brazilian databases, such as SciELO, CAPES, and Graduate Programs, related to the categories of “memory” and “education”. The analysis, based on theorists like Norma Sandra de Almeida Ferreira (2002) and Joana Pauli Romanowski and Romilda Teodora Ens (2006), revealed a lack of studies directly addressing the research object. However, convergent elements were identified, allowing parallels to be drawn with the theme. The study highlights the importance of the state of the art in providing visibility to relevant research and expanding discussions, particularly in the field of memory and education.

Irlandia Ponte Lima, Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia

PhD candidate in the Graduate Program in Education (PPGED/UESB-BA) (2024). Holds a Master's degree in Education from the Graduate Program in Education (PPGED/UESB-BA) (2021/2022). Research member of the Social Memory, Space, and Education Analysis Center (NUAMSEE - CNPq) - UESB. Holds specializations in Society, Space, and Environment, as well as School Management. Holds a Bachelor's degree in Geography from the State University of Southwest Bahia and a Bachelor's degree in Pedagogy, with a teaching certification from the Educational Center of Barra do Choça - BA.

Permanent teacher in the Municipality of Barra do Choça - BA since 1996, with teaching experience in the early and final years of elementary school. Has experience as a Pedagogical Coordinator for both early and final years of elementary school and has served as Principal of João Batista Figueiredo Municipal School and Manuel Ramos Educational Center in Barra do Choça. Currently, a Geography teacher at the Educational Center of Barra do Choça - BA, teaching final-year elementary students (Geography).

Nereida Maria Maria Santos Mafra De Benedictis, Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia

PhD in Memory, Language, and Society. Master’s degree in Social Sciences. Currently a Full Professor in the Department of Geography at the State University of Southwest Bahia (UESB) and a faculty member in the Graduate Program in Education at UESB. Experienced in the fields of Geography Education, Memory, and the Social Geography of Women. Leader of NUAMSEE - Research Group on Social Memory, Space, and Education, and a research member of GESCOM and GRUPEG. https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9257-3487
