Reading in the room, reading in the living room, reading on the bus, reading at school, reading at public and personal libraries: reconstructing the effects

Abstract: The text presents a set of reflections on reading development structured from a review of the author's personal story also analyzes the problem of the meaning reading can acquire throughout life experiences. Thinking about the time and space in which we accomplish reading besides moments and places in which it occurs allows us to reconstruct the effects of the numerous works we have known; likewise, the forms in which we have continually taken ownership of books to shape our thinking. Constituting the history of our own lived library is, in many ways, the chronicle of our formation attested by the texts. The elaborated analysis benefits from the initiatives that have been incited among the Pedagogy degree colleagues, professors and students inside the School of Education at the University of São Paulo. Debates set in the context of the formative processes, reading acquisition, its promotion and the role it plays in the core of school learning. Therefore, once the numerous problems related to reading and schooling are forgotten, this text moves from the personal and individual meanings to the social worth associated with the possibilities of book access and the effects behind the act of reading.
