Historical aspects of an extinguished school institution, the D. Justino Russolillo school in Palmas de Monte Alto – BA (1964 – 1980)

Abstract

This article proposes a discussion about the historical reconstitution of the D. Justino Russolillo School, a 1st and 2nd-grade school that existed in Palmas de Monte Alto between 1964 and 1980. Therefore, it seeks to understand the documentation of that school, which is digitized and available to researchers in the History of Education at the History Teaching Laboratory of the Universidade do Estado da Bahia – UNEB – Campus VI. This article is an essential contribution to the historiographical research of education in the semiarid region of Bahia; since the formation of the school’s archives and the writing of the history of those institutions, as described here, has been strengthened the field of research in History of Regional Education. Thus, the documents of this school are understood as sources of important research to discuss the historical aspects of Brazilian education in the local and regional reality. In this sense, the documents were selected, problematized, and interpreted according to the scientifical method theoretical-methodological of the New Cultural History, which includes empirical recognition of the sources to produce historical knowledge. New sources will also be produced from oral reports to expand such information. The development of this theme is part of a master’s degree thesis of the Graduate Program in Teaching, Language and Society (PPGELS) of the Campus mentioned above, having the mentioned school’s history as an object of study. Alongside this, there is also the production of a catalog, in which the documentation is presented in a digital file.
