This article aims to approach and bring a brief reflection on how interdisciplinarity influenced, through multidimensional approaches, the change in the concept of development over time. These new approaches incorporated, throughout the second half of the 20th century, especially in the last decades of the century and the beginning of the 21st century, other knowledge beyond the traditionally relevant economic perspective in the construction of the concept of development based on growth. The need to respond to the phenomenon of development begins to absorb the contributions of other areas of knowledge, without excluding the importance of the economic, in order to respond to the needs imposed by the reality of peoples and the search for more comprehensive solutions in a world of enormous heterogeneity and complexity.
