(Auto)biographical fragments and formation in contemporary art: in between gaps of the invention of self

Abstract

This paper is about autobiographical elements in a contemporary artwork by Adriana Varejão. We are interested in the narrative fragments that evoke the writing of the self through the artwork. Thus, the goal is to carry out a reading of the processes of autonarration, writing of the self, and heterobiography that involve the dialogue between the cited works of art of the artist, the world, and new perspectives for thinking about (auto)biography. The research is crossed by two vertical lines. The first consists of the complexity that runs through the relationship between (auto)biography and formative processes. The second line is based on the movements and remnants and intimacy, of autobiography that constitute the artworks of some Brazilian contemporary women artists, as well as the collective and social critiques that can be evoked from them. In its sense-producing dimension, the narrative announces the movements of the constitution of the human in his singularity and, at the same time, social expression. It is, therefore, about the contagion between art and life, in which we can include pedagogical practices and the production of knowledge itself.
