Abstract

Nowadays there is an increase in society's concern about environmental issues and the availability of water resources. Even though Brazil is considered a hydrologically rich country, otherwise, water scarcity is common in some regions such as the interior Northeast, where there are very long periods of drought. The reasons for this scarcity are numerous; poor management with public resource and environmental activities like domestic sewage into rivers resulting in public health problems. The consequence of this affects surface waters, as they are more vulnerable to impacts than those found at greater depths. Given the above, this work aimed to show the importance of proper maintenance and management of springs to mitigate the water crisis in the rural area of the municipality of Mata Grande-Alagoas. The methodology was directed to the bibliographical research, followed by a documental research through a survey of the springs of the municipality of Mata Grande carried out by the "Reborn Project" in conjunction with the municipal government. The field surveys were carried out in loco applied with ten landowners, being five with springs and five where they do not exist some water resources. The data methodology collection for analysis, was input a questionnaire with a form questions referring to the springs in the rural area and their benefits. There are many speeches relating difficulties of lack of water in places where they do not exist. The result showed the need for the prefecture municipality of Mata Grande to elaborate a project to recover the abandoned springs and seek to find other forms of water supply, through the implantation of artesian wells that will benefit the population that suffers from the water crisis.
