In this text, we will present the argument of the archifossil found in the first chapter of the book "After Finitude'' by the French philosopher Quentin Meillassoux. To do so, we will provide the historical foundations of the movement in which the work is situated and elaborate on the concepts that precede the argument, namely the distinction between primary and secondary qualities and correlationism. The argument in question seeks to make evident the Kantian dilemma, which extends to multiple contemporary currents, when attempting to pass judgment on statements that predate the emergence of life on Earth. Meillassoux, adopting a post-critical stance, will defend a realistic view that avoids the pitfalls of correlationism. Finally, we will present a brief overview of criticisms of the author's positions and provide references for further exploration of the topic.
Keywords: speculative realism; contemporary philosophy; Quentin Meillassoux; correlationism; archifossil.
