Characteristics of the era of world-culture according to Gilles Lipovetsky and Jean Serroy
Abstract
This article proposes to question some aspects of The world-culture: response to a disoriented society written by Gilles Lipovetsky and Jean Serroy. In this book, the authors approach the situation of culture in the modern world, instituted by the flow of products, images and information conveyed in abundance by the mass media, highlighting the idea that we live in a world where social patterns are reconfigured at all times, which gives rise to the effect of fluidity and relativism. The era of world culture is understood as the period when technology and easy access to information break down the barriers that separate individuals from the various corners of the earth. This is a bibliographic study and it is based on crucial points of the aforementioned work, proposing an analysis of the experiences of the postmodern individual regarding the paradigm of society disoriented by the desire of consuming, which often leads individuals to uneasy and fleeting hedonism.
