PREJUDICE, SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS AND SEXUAL HEALTH IN THE LGBT+ POPULATION: A CROSS-CUTTING STUDY
Abstract
Introduction: Prejudice and discrimination against homosexual sexual behavior are considered in the literature as determinants of health, as they cause specific vulnerabilities, constitute a symbolic barrier to access, affect the quality of health care and have strong potential to trigger the health process -disease, illness and premature deathObjective: Describe the socio-demographic characteristics and the prejudices faced, the involvement of sexually transmitted infections and the sexual health status of the LGBT + population. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study, with individuals from the LGBT + population, through access through an online questionnaire. The criteria for inclusion in the study were: I study individuals who are part of the LGBT + population, over 18 years of age, who have an active sex life. Results: 95 participants were included in the study, of which 66.3% were between 18 and 25 years old, 30.5% between 26 and 35 years old and 3.2% over 36 years old, with a sample for sexual orientation, where 33.3 % were gay, 32.29% bisexual, 28.13% lesbian and 6.25% others (transsexual and pansexual). Discussion: The access of gays, bisexuals and transgenders to health is characterized by barriers, such as inappropriate behavior and discriminatory care by health professionals, who end up isolating them from the world of health services. Conclusion: In this way, the study helps health professionals, influencing the way they can see health care with a more humanized look regardless of the person's sexual orientation.
