Objective: To report on the experience of receiving and welcoming Brazilian and international students who have recently joined a public university for international integration, through the implementation of activities to promote health and well-being with a view to improving the permanence of students. Summary of data: Active methods were used in the development of conversation circles and subjectivity immersion spaces. The experiences reported were generally evaluated positively by the team of health professionals. They have been configured as a new format of action - within the framework of the actions carried out by the student health sector - that values the effective participation of students and is oriented towards the promotion of health and well-being. Conclusion: The current report contributes to the literature, by documenting an action in the field of health promotion in a university context; and to practice, by promoting insights for implementing different health promotion practices in other higher education institutions.
