The extraction of natural resources, particularly minerals, necessitates stringent territorial control due to the inevitable removal of soil and subsoil, resulting in significant environmental impacts. This study aims to analyze the effects of mining activities on the populations of Brazil's semi-arid region. Employing a qualitative research methodology, we examined various sources, including scientific articles, reports, and government data. Our findings reveal that 206 minerals are in high demand in the region, transforming it into a battleground for major mining corporations. Between 2004 and 2022, over 310 water-related conflicts were recorded, highlighting the need for improved natural resource management. Bahia, with 74 cases in 2020, was the most affected state. Driven by international and domestic capital, mining companies strategically target specific areas, maximizing profits regardless of land quality.
