Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak's thought
the material ballast of the trope's performativity
Keywords:
Spivak, Representation, Perfomance, FemaleAbstract
The purpose of this article is to revisit the thought of Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, an important Indian thinker not only with regard to postcolonial issues, but also with regard to gender issues and cultural criticism. For the present text, we are specifically interested in revisiting his famous, controversial and acclaimed article “Can the subaltern speak?”, extremely essayistic and experimental, where Spivak, based on the theoretical matrix proposed by Jacques Derrida in Grammatology, aims to rethink the forms of representation of the subaltern and the feminine, as well as the intervening forces of such representations.
