LOCAL CURRICULUM AS A SPACE TO VALUE STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCES IN BUILDING KNOWLEDGE IN THE CLASSROOM
Abstract
The present study aims to understand how students' experiences are integrated in the construction of knowledge in the classroom. Specifically, we aim to: a) explain students’ local experiences; b) describe the impact of the local curriculum on the construction of student knowledge in the classroom; c) describe the content covered in the classroom based on the students’ experiences. To this end, we opted for a qualitative study supported by the interview technique to collect data from 5 teachers from two basic schools in the Mandimba district. The results reveal that teachers have not valued locally defined knowledge when building knowledge in classrooms. Therefore, it is essential that training and training actions for teachers in terms of the local curriculum are intensified.
