METABOLIC IMPLICATIONS OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE IN THE HYPOTHALAMUS - PITUITARY - ADRENAL AXIS
Keywords:
Cortisol, physical exercise, hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, hypothalamo-hypophysis-adrenal axisAbstract
The pituitary adrenal pituitary axis (HPA) or pituitary adrenal pituitary axis (HHA) is part of the endocrine system and is important for several metabolic changes in the body, although it is an axis little explored by physical education professionals for not establishing a relationship with the practice of physical exercise. The present study is a narrative bibliographical research. Books and journals indexed in the databases: Scielo, Google Academic, Lilacs and Science Research were included in the analysis. The aim of this study was to highlight the influence of physical exercise on the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and, under this context, to report on the character of cortisol through this practice and to verify how negative feedback participates in this process. Always relating the participation of cortisol as the main glycocorticoid hormone secreted and consequently protagonist of metabolic reactions triggered by the HPA axis and generating a series of reactions in the human body altering the state of body homeostasis stimulated by the stressor agent.
