Abstract

This article presents a comparative study between the book by Agatha Christie Sleeping Murder (2009) and the tale by Edgar Allan Poe The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1982), providing an analysis of the approximations and distances between works in order to bringing to light the construction of police suspense in fictional narratives. In such a way, it will be investigated what the means, procedures used by the authors and in what moments of their works are evident the process of construction of the suspense. Thus, we will make a brief discussion about the suspense genre and what type can be found in the works above mentioned. To do so, we will bring theoreticians such as Lovecraft (2008), Truffaut (2004), as well as comparative literature theorists.
