SECESSION: ON ORIGINS, CAUSES, LEGITIMACY, AND GLOBAL IMPACT
Abstract
The article discusses secession, a phenomenon that involves the quest for independence or separation of an ethnic, political or geographical group from a pre-existing sovereign state. The aim is to provide a comprehensive and impartial analysis of secession, exploring its various manifestations throughout history and in different political and geographical contexts, with a special emphasis on African dynamics. The method employed is mainly descriptive and analytical, based on a review of the existing literature on secession and a critical analysis of the different factors that influence this phenomenon. The article aims to make a comprehensive and impartial analysis of secession, through its various manifestations throughout history and in different political and geographical contexts. It highlights the complexity of secession and the multiple dimensions to be considered when analysing this phenomenon. It was concluded that there is a need for an impartial methodological approach to understanding the causes, legitimacy and impact of secession.
