Abstract

The dialogue between Africa and the West has been marked by recurring disconnections, especially since the development of the second European modernity, in which a supposed African traditionalism was relegated to a subordinate, contradictory, antithetical or antipodal plane. However, as this article aims to demonstrate, an objective look at the proverbial collection of the a-Makhuwa reveals that the outlook on life and the respective system of knowledge contained therein have never been inferior to the cultural practices of the West. This work was developed within a methodologically comparative and diachronic framework, but also within a (re)interpretative one.
