Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss aspects of the relationship between music and memory in the Portuguese-speaking world, emphasizing the case of Artur Arriscado, an Angolan migrant in Portugal and Brazil. The method used to achieve the objective is the comparative study between the oral testimony of Arriscado (as well as his books of essays and short stories) and the thought of the Portuguese Agostinho da Silva, especially in what it concerns musical sensitivity and spiritual sensitivity. As a conclusion, the importance of considering an explicit conception of temporality in Arriscado's discourse is highlighted, partly according to the usual categories of the science of History and historiography, partly touching the illo tempore of myths, as a relevant element for the studies about the relationship between memory and history, orality and writing.
