Abstract

At the end of the 1970s, the first comic book about a black South-african superhero was published in South Africa under the rule of apartheid. It was Mighty Man, published by Afri-comics. It was part of a pro-government propaganda program, in favor of white minority rule in the country. In this paper, Mighty Man’s conception and production are analised under the light of the political meanings of this entrepreneurship for the South-african society as a whole, considering the creation and execution process of such project, led by State poliical power and its private bussiness counterpart.
