A ATUAÇÃO DA CAIXA ECONÔMICA FEDERAL NO COMBATE ÀS DESIGUALDADES SOCIAIS DURANTE A PANDEMIA DO NOVO CORONAVÍRUS

Abstract

Federal public banks play a fundamental role in the country's development, whether by investing in public works, allocating resources to underserved regions or even fostering the economy. In this sense, Caixa Econômica Federal, as the main public bank, has played an important role in reducing social inequalities, especially during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The guiding problem of this work was to investigate how the actions carried out by Caixa, as the Federal Public Bank, contributed to reducing social inequalities during the pandemic. In order to answer the above question, we sought to understand the impact that the actions promoted by Caixa, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, helped to reducing the ills of Brazilian society. A qualitative bibliographic and documentary review research methodology was adopted, based mainly on the writings of authors such as Araújo (2018), Barbosa (2015), Godoi (2022) and the integrated reports published by Caixa in 2020, 2021 and 2022. It was noticed that Caixa Econômica Federal's actions, as a state-owned company and an agent of social transformation, resulted in concrete actions to redistribute income, guarantee employment, pay unemployment insurance and the FGTS, access direct transfers made by the federal government through Auxílio Brasil and invest in infrastructure and low-income housing, in addition to bankrolling a population that was previously excluded from this segment of society.
