PATERNITY AND HEALTH: A STUDY OF GENDER RELATIONS IN THE CARE OF ADOLESCENTS

Abstract

This article is the result of the Residency Completion Work, presented to the Residency Program in Social Work and Health at the Pedro Ernesto University Hospital (HUPE in Portuguese), which is linked to the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ in Portuguese). In that the participation of parents in the care of their adolescents, who are followed at the outpatient clinic of the Adolescent Health Studies Center (NESA in Portuguese), is like a reflection to the gender relationship that permeate the care process. Regarding to the methodology, the theoretical foundation was carried out through a bibliographic survey in a database and pertinent legislation, using primary and secondary sources. The research was organized in two stages: the first one with data collection from social care records, and the second one with semi-structured interviews with parents and theirs adolescents. The information obtained in both phases was theoretically analyzed from bibliographical references on family, gender, masculinity, paternity, care and adolescence. The research results can collaborate with the performance of the multidisciplinary health team, in studies of gender relationships and the father's roles in care and in the development of public policies.
