Objective: to analyze the epidemiological profile of deaths from COVID-19 in the state of Bahia during the first year of the New Coronavirus pandemic. Method: this is an observational, ecological, analytical and retrospective time series study, based on the secondary analysis of information available on the Transparency Portal of the Secretary of Health of the State of Bahia, in the period corresponding to March 6, 2020 to March 7, 2021. The collection was carried out during the month of March 2021. The data analysis was done using the Microsoft Office Excel® software where the data were tabulated and analyzed. Results: in the corresponding period, about 12,530 individuals died, which represents a lethality rate of 1.75%. As for the profile of individuals who died, it was observed that 70% of the cases occurred in people with pre-existing comorbidities, aged over 50 years, with a higher prevalence in males. Conclusion: the mortality profile was marked by regional inequalities, which points to the need for health education and highlights the importance of health policies with prospects of reducing infection rates in the state, with a consequent reduction in mortality, with non-pharmacological measures, such as social distance and the use of masks, and vaccination, fundamental measures to reduce the number of deaths in the state.
