Abstract

Linguistic diversity is a Brazilian wealth little known and appreciated. The direction opposing diversity is the path most trodden by society. This positioning complicates the process of language revitalization, as it contributes to the invisibility of the many languages spoken in the country. For the indigenous languages of northeast Brazil this difficulty is even greater, because their linguistic condition is minimized. Autochthonous languages and their situation in the Indigenous Northeast of Brazil are the themes of this work.
