EDUCAÇÃO LIBERTADORA: REFLEXÕES SOBRE O LEGADO DE JOÃO BATISTA LIBANIO

This article addresses aspects of Father João Batista Libanio educational legacy, showing some characteristics of his pedagogical experiences, with emphasis on his career as a theology teacher. Faced with the current civilizational crisis, visible in the wounds of the poor and the land, this reflection understands education as a transversal element for integral human formation. Based on Pope Francis' prophetic cries in favor of universal fraternity and integral ecology, and in dialogue with Paulo Freire's pedagogy of the oppressed, it presents some of the renowned theologian's contributions to strengthening a pedagogy of liberation. With his own methodology of awakening in students a taste for knowledge, Libanio shows, based on christian principles, the need to maintain coherence between theory and praxis, as a result of lucid intellectual honesty. Thus, his teachings encourage educators and students to follow paths of defense for the poorest and the planet in the face of scenarios that are increasingly hostile to them.
