REVISITAR A HISTÓRIA DA ÁFRICA DO SUL E A SUA HISTORIOGRAFIA: UMA TRAJECTÓRIA DE ENCONTROS E TENDÊNCIAS

ABSTRACT: Our interest in revisiting the history of South Africa and its historiography arises from the need to understand how historical facts have been written and described over the time. On the other hand, the revisit will allow a brief synthesis of the history of South Africa, where the unit of analysis will be the struggle waged by contenders (Boers and Britons) for the implementation of a colony. In this sense, the struggles for the domain of the colony influenced the first historiographical schools in South Africa, where the main focus of these schools was to look at the history based on the frontier question, being understood as a meeting point between whites and Africans.

RESUMO: O nosso interesse em revisitar a história da África do Sul e a sua historiografia, nasce da necessidade de compreender como os factos históricos foram escritos e narrados ao longo do tempo. Por outro lado, a revisitação permitirá fazer uma breve síntese da história da África do Sul, onde a unidade de análise será a luta travada por contendores (Bóeres e Britânicos) em prol da implementação de uma colónia. Neste sentido, as lutas pelo domínio da colónia influenciaram as primeiras escolas historiográficas na África do sul, onde o maior foco destas escolas, foi olhar a história com base na questão da fronteira, sendo esta entendida como ponto de encontro entre “brancos” e africanos.
