Encouraging breastfeeding in the immediate puerperia: an experience report

Abstract

Breastfeeding is a physiological tool of intense bonding relationships between the mother-child binomial. Through breastfeeding, the baby's immune system is strengthened, there is a reduction in infant morbidity and mortality, promotion of the child's physical and cognitive development. In the process of breastfeeding, the benefits in relation to the puerpera are related to favoring early uterine involution, reducing the probability of developing breast cancer, reducing the occurrence of uterine bleeding, postpartum depression, among others. Therefore, this study aimed to report the experience of a nursing academic in the performance of health education activities on the encouragement of breastfeeding and correct attachment of the breast during the supervised practice of the discipline of Nursing in Attention to Women's Health held in the maternity and obstetric center of a public hospital in the municipality of Guanambi during the month of September 2022.
