Abstract

The aim of the study was to verify the acute effect of isometric handgrip exercise (IHE) on the blood pressure (BP) of elderly hypertensive individuals and to analyze the individual BP responses after the IHE sessions. BP was measured at rest and during recovery. There was no significant interaction for systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). On the other hand, it was found that 75% of volunteers decreased SBP and 25% reduced DBP.
