Global and local in reinforcing old identities

Abstract

The objective of this work is to understand how the possibilities offered by modern information and communication technologies can create mechanisms for the posting and dissemination of musical and artistic work chosen to give identity to the subjects of the Frogs and to stimulate senses of collectivity. From the concept of world-culture, proposed by Lipovetsky and Serroy (2011), the show recorded on DVD by Banda Quilombo do Rio das Rãs, recorded in 2009, music, performance, production and artistic elaboration were approached in the light of the contributions of ethnomusicology, but which are also at the center of symbolic and discursive elaborations, when the processes of production and dissemination of video are considered, from recording in the public square to pressing and distribution, in the form of DVD, with resources of state policies to promote culture. Displacements and deterritorialization, marks of the contemporary world, point to new relational possibilities, built on the use and sharing of experiences and information. Cultural productions based on identity cannot be exempt from the influence of values, ideas and beliefs supported by capitalist logic. In this new reality, social subjects are confronted by the existence and free expression of identities, against which it seems possible to make choices. “Shared identities”, thanks to cultural flows and global consumerism, bring people who are distant in space and time together. The valorization (thought of as rescue or recovery) of cultural expressions of ethnic minorities is supported by the set of strategies associated with the concept of affirmative actions implemented by the Brazilian government, especially since 2003, in response to the demands of black resistance movements.
