Received Pronunciation: uma breve análise de cursos de Accent Reduction

Resumo

Este artigo se propõe a analisar os cursos de Accent Reduction para o aprendizado do Received Pronunciation (RP), a variação não-regional falada pelas classes mais abastadas do Reino Unido. Tendo como base os parâmetros listados por Ron Thomson (2014) em seu escrito Myth 6: Accent Reduction and Pronunciation Instruction are the same thing que faz parte do livro Pronunciation Myths: Applying second language research to classroom teaching de Linda Grant. Para tal buscamos entender a intenção por trás do interesse de um falante nativo ou não-nativo de aprender uma variação linguística (o Received Pronunciation) que é pouco utilizadas pelos falantes nativos do Reino Unido, assim como compreender como os cursos de accent reduction fazem uso da fonologia de uma língua para ensinar uma nova habilidade para falantes tanto nativos quanto não-nativos do inglês. A escolha dos cursos analisados foi feita usando o buscador Google e avaliamos os websites das empresas para verificar se elas se encaixavam nos parâmetros de Thomson. Traremos ainda a visão de diversos teóricos que trabalham com o ensino-aprendizagem de pronúncia e com variação linguística, como MUNRO e DERWING (2014), LIPPI-GREEN (1994), e também a visão de TRUDGILL (2008) e MILROY (2001) tratando sobre o Received Pronunciation e PENNYCOOK (2017) e PHILLIPSON (2013) abrangendo o domínio do inglês nas sociedades contemporâneas.
